The latest high-rise proposal for San Jose features a design inspired by the wings of a falcon, includes a circular top-floor restaurant under a glass oculus, and can automatically deliver your automobile in 60 seconds from a “car ATM.”
But here’s something just as notable: It’s not in Downtown San Jose. Instead, try “Santana Row adjacent.”
Meet Volar, a 25-story mixed-use tower proposed for 350 S. Winchester Ave., that’s definitely outside the proverbial box. (The word means “to fly” in Spanish.) On tap: 330 residential units and about 50,000 square feet of commercial space, encased in a curved glass skin wrapping around floors that are shaped a little bit like a Star Trek communicator badge.
